Exciting news regarding our Common Ground Interspiritual Fellowship Celebration of Spirit in Astoria.
We have started a Sunday morning spiritual fellowship that is not defined by any particular belief system, especially intended for the “spiritual but not religious,” as well as those who draw from more than one faith tradition. At CGI Fellowship, members have an active voice in creating the kind of worshipful environment that expresses their values and supports their spiritual practices. Through open dialogue, participants have the opportunity to safely express their truth as well as their questions, doubts, and explorations. Such a shared exploration requires individuals to draw from their own sources of “authority” and to listen openly to what each other person contributes. Through the dialogue process, participants have the opportunity to develop the listening skills that create a safe space for others in the group who may have different beliefs, points of view, and practices. You are invited to participate in helping to create an ongoing spiritual conversation among like-minded people that supports your continuing spiritual development and understanding. See our discussion of The Evolution of Religious Institutions here.
The weekly group discussions will be focused around a different topic each week where the emphasis is on empathic listening and supportive dialogue. Participants will be invited to share their personal understanding, experience, and practices related to the topic of discussion. This interspiritual fellowship will not promote any specific doctrine or system of belief and is instead based on principles, including the principle that “We each have a right to define our own spiritual path and we respect the right of others to define their own spiritual path.” All faiths, including “spiritual but not religious,” agnostic, atheist, as well as traditional faiths are welcome to the planning meeting and to the future weekly services.
The welcoming folks at the First United Methodist Church of Astoria are supporting us by allowing us to rent space in their building! Our “pre-launch” services will begin August 27, 2017. The “official” launch is currently scheduled for October 1st. We’ll hold services each Sunday between the pre-launch and the official launch and use that time to iron out the wrinkles. You are more than welcome to join us! Here are the details:
